The Bipolar Flow

This blog entry is a creative narrative based upon the experience of bipolar disorder and may contain triggering content for some.
Flying high, then swooping low
It's the cycle that you know
You can do anything touch the sky
feel invincible but you're just a liar
When the night comes, there is no sleep
laughing loudly to weeping in a heart beat
When the docs ask are you okay,
you say "I'm really great, thanks",
watch them grab their slate.
"She's so excited" they all exclaim
"Incredibly positive" not knowing the
chemicals that have hijacked my brain
All the laughter, chatter and dancing
may seem fun at first
then hours pass, then days
weeks go by, even months at worst
To the urges of my being
I'm sick of being a slave
I'm begging on my knees*
ready to medicate.
& then day by day
you loosen up your grip
ready to say goodbye
& I know you're already waiting
for the next time I slip
that's not before the low tides
they return and you take a hit
they sweep you off your feet
until you're looking for a fix.
